Border people in the Digital Era

Abstract

This research entitled Border Community in Digital Era, was started from a finding of life reality on
villagers in a remoted border area that is not definitely released from a use of digital technology.
The aim of this research is to find out a motive of villagers using these digital tools and how they
interpreted a progress of this digital technology. The research approach using qualitativedescriptive,
with interpretive paradigm, through phenomenology study. The subject of this research
is the community that lived in Temajuk Village, a remote village that directly borders with Melano
village, Malaysia. The subject is selected purposively, based on the context and the need of research.
Data collection was gathered through deep interview, observation, literary review and documents.
The results found that the motive from the communities of the village using digital technologies were
due to the needs of communication, entertaining and receiving up- to-date information. While the
mean that was not revealed was that digital gadgets as a symbol of equality or similarity of
prosperity with the neighbor villager, Melano, Malaysia that is currently considered more
prosperous.
